Yes. Depending on the project, we draw on a proven network of technicians, installers, crane companies, heavy-haul freight forwarders, packaging companies, customs brokers, financing partners, and service providers. Upon request, Sunter remains the central point of contact and coordinates all interfaces.

Are inquiries handled confidentially?

Yes. Equipment sales, restructurings, site closures, and investment projects may involve sensitive information. We treat submitted documents as confidential and disclose project-related information only to the necessary internal or external parties. If a higher level of protection is required, a confidentiality agreement may also be entered into.

Can Sunter provide examples of past projects?

Sunter has carried out numerous machine sales, dismantling projects, transport operations, plant liquidations, and international relocations. Selected reference projects can be presented on our website or during a personal meeting. However, due to confidentiality agreements, not all projects can be publicly disclosed.

How is project communication documented?

Important commercial, technical, and logistical agreements are set forth in writing. Depending on the scope, these include quotes, order confirmations, purchase agreements, loading plans, photo documentation, checklists, reports, shipping documents, and schedules. The final, confirmed documents are always authoritative.

Can Sunter provide support on a purely advisory basis?

Yes. In addition to full-scale projects, individual consulting or valuation services can be arranged. These include, for example, market value assessments, machinery appraisals, logistics concepts, asset utilization strategies, asset inventories, or preliminary technical reviews. The exact scope is defined in advance.

How do I get started working with Sunter?

To begin with, we clarify the objective, the machine, the location, the timeline, and the desired scope of services. We then review the available documentation and provide an initial assessment or a quote. For more complex projects, this is often followed by an on-site inspection, technical consultation, or assessment.

Machinery Purchasing

What types of machines does Sunter purchase?

We purchase individual machine tools, machine packages, complete machine fleets, and production lines. We are particularly interested in CNC machines and large-scale metalworking machines. We also accept inquiries regarding conventional machines or specialized equipment, provided that realistic technical and economic reuse is possible.

What information is needed for a purchase inquiry?

It is helpful to provide the manufacturer, model, year of manufacture, serial number, control system, travel ranges, equipment, operating hours, location, condition, known defects, desired pickup date, as well as clear photos and videos. Any existing machine specifications, maintenance records, tool lists, and technical documentation will speed up the evaluation process.

How is the purchase price determined?

The valuation takes into account, among other factors, the manufacturer, model, year of manufacture, technical specifications, condition, maintenance history, current market demand, dismantling costs, transportation costs, location, accessories, and resale potential. For large machinery, the valuation also considers the foundation, building access, crane requirements, and any special transportation needs.

Is an inspection required before purchasing?

For well-documented standard machines, a reliable preliminary assessment can initially be made based on the documentation. Before making a final purchase decision—especially in the case of high-value, complex, or unfamiliar machines—it is often advisable to conduct an on-site inspection. This allows for a reliable assessment of the machine’s condition, completeness, accessibility, and the effort required for disassembly.

Will I receive a binding offer to buy?

After a thorough review, you will receive a written offer specifying the purchase price, payment terms, pickup deadline, and the agreed-upon scope of services. If essential information is missing or an inspection has not yet been conducted, an initial price estimate may be provided on a non-binding basis and subject to change.

When is payment made when purchasing machinery?

The payment date is specified in the purchase agreement. Depending on the project, payment may be made after the contract is signed, before dismantling, before pickup, or after certain conditions are met. If all documentation is complete and ownership is clearly established, payment can be processed quickly.

Does Sunter also purchase machines from ongoing production?

Yes. We can purchase machines that will continue production until an agreed-upon date. Together, we will plan the shutdown, data backup, parking position, disconnection, disassembly, and pickup in such a way that operational processes are disrupted as little as possible.

Does Sunter also buy defective or inoperable machines?

In principle, this is possible. The key factors are the nature and extent of the defect, the availability of replacement parts, the vehicle’s completeness, its market value, and the cost of repair. Known defects should be disclosed and described as accurately as possible so that a realistic assessment can be made.

Does Sunter purchase entire machine fleets or production areas?

Yes. For machinery fleets and production areas, we can conduct a structured inventory assessment upon request. Based on that, we can propose a package deal, individual disposal, marketing through our network, or a combination of various disposal options.

Who is responsible for the costs of disassembly and removal?

That depends on the agreed-upon purchase model. Sunter often handles dismantling, loading, and transportation entirely or includes these services in the purchase offer. In the case of special requirements, individual cost items can be itemized separately or divided between the parties.

Search Request and Procurement

Can Sunter search specifically for a particular machine?

Yes. Through a customized search request, we search our own inventory, our international network, industrial companies, dealers, and project partners. This allows us to find machines that are not yet publicly listed.

What information does Sunter need for a search request?

We need technical specifications that are as precise as possible: machine type, preferred manufacturer, year of manufacture, control system, travel ranges, spindle power, table or chuck size, axes, automation, accessories, budget, location, and desired delivery date. The more detailed the specifications, the more targeted the search will be.

Can I request information on multiple manufacturers or models?

Yes. It often makes sense to consider technically comparable alternatives in addition to your preferred model. We can compare suitable manufacturers, product lines, and configurations and explain which solution best meets your requirements from a cost-effectiveness perspective.

How long does it take to find the right machine?

That depends on the machine type, specifications, budget, and market conditions. Standard machines may be available on short notice, while rare, large machines or custom configurations may require a longer search. We provide transparent information about realistic availability and alternatives.

Is a search request exclusive?

A search assignment can be arranged on a non-binding basis or as an exclusive, project-specific engagement. An exclusive engagement may be advisable in cases involving in-depth technical evaluation, global sourcing, or on-site searches. The terms and conditions and potential compensation are set forth in writing in advance.

Does Sunter also find machines outside the public market?

Yes. A key advantage of our network is that it provides access to machinery from ongoing production runs, upcoming investments, restructuring efforts, or confidential sales processes. The sharing of such offers may be subject to confidentiality agreements.

Can Sunter find a machine that fits within my budget?

We take your budget into account right from the preselection phase. In addition to the purchase price, we also consider disassembly, transportation, installation, potential repairs, and follow-up costs. If the desired specifications do not fit within your budget, we will suggest technically viable alternatives.

Can Sunter compare used and new machines?

Yes. We can compare the investment amount, availability, features, remaining service life, energy consumption, service access, and delivery time. The decision depends on whether short-term availability, state-of-the-art technology, warranty, or a lower purchase price is the top priority.

Is a used machine inspected before purchase?

Upon request, we can arrange a site visit, functional test, video inspection, or technical assessment. The scope of the inspection is tailored to the machine, location, and risk. If necessary, external experts or manufacturer services can also be consulted.

What are the costs associated with a search request?

The costs depend on the scope of work and the agreed-upon model. Simple inventory inquiries may be free of charge; extensive international research, technical preselection, travel, or expert opinions may be billed separately. Any fees will be agreed upon transparently before work begins.

Yes. For international customers or for an initial screening, we can arrange a live video tour depending on the location. This allows us to specifically showcase the machine’s condition, features, nameplate, control system, and included accessories. However, a video tour does not always replace an on-site technical inspection.

Is it possible to do a trial run?

A test run is possible if the machine, tool, material, personnel, safety, and production process allow it. The scope, workpiece, and measurement criteria must be agreed upon in advance. Additional costs may be billed separately.

May I bring my own technician or expert?

Yes. Buyers may bring their own technicians, manufacturer representatives, or independent experts to the inspection. Please let us know in advance the scope of the inspection you require so that we can arrange access, a time slot, and the necessary operating conditions.

Are maintenance and service documents available?

Any existing maintenance reports, service records, repair records, or machine logs will be provided, provided that the seller has them on file and is authorized to disclose them. A complete history cannot always be guaranteed for older used machines.

Can geometry or measurement reports be generated?

Yes. Depending on the machine, we can offer geometric inspections, concentricity measurements, spindle tests, laser interferometer measurements, ballbar tests, or workpiece measurements. The specific scope of measurement, tolerances, and costs are agreed upon in advance.

Will I receive recent photos and videos?

We generally provide current photos and, when possible, videos. For projects still in progress or machines at the customer’s site, additional material can be provided upon request. It is essential that relevant details—such as the nameplate, working area, control system, accessories, and any known damage—be clearly visible.

Is sensitive production data protected from being viewed during a tour?

Yes. Production programs, customer data, drawings, and internal operational information belonging to the previous operator may not be transferred or disclosed without authorization. Before the handover, arrangements may be made regarding data backups, deletions, or access restrictions.

How long does a machine inspection take?

The duration depends on the machine type and the scope of the inspection. A visual inspection alone can be completed relatively quickly; a technical inspection involving a warm-up, spindle tests, tool changes, measurements, or test machining requires significantly more time. The time slot will be arranged in advance.

How do I prepare for a tour?

Please bring a technical requirements specification and a checklist. It is helpful to include details regarding workpieces, tolerances, tools, control systems, automation, and installation conditions. For international projects, you should also take into account transport dimensions, mains voltage, and local safety requirements.

Technology and Machine Condition

Which technical features are tested?

The scope of the test depends on the machine. Typically, the control system, axis movements, spindle, tool changer, pallet changer, cooling system, hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication, safety devices, and selected additional functions can be tested. Only items that have actually been tested are documented as tested.

How is a machine's accuracy assessed?

Accuracy can be evaluated as needed through geometric inspection, runout measurement, positioning measurement, a ballbar test, or a test workpiece. A functional test alone does not automatically confirm manufacturing accuracy. Therefore, the desired tolerances must be specified in writing prior to testing.

Can spindle and table runout be checked?

Yes, provided the machine is accessible and operational. The measurement method, measurement points, warm-up procedure, and permissible values will be agreed upon in advance. For large or complex machines, it may be advisable to have the inspection performed by specialized service technicians.

Which CNC controllers does Sunter support?

We deal in machines equipped with widely used control systems such as Siemens, Heidenhain, Fanuc, Fagor, Okuma, and other systems. For technical questions, replacement parts, data backup, or commissioning, we can involve our own technicians, the manufacturer, or specialized service partners, depending on the control system.

Can a used machine be modernized?

Yes. Possible measures range from cleaning and mechanical overhauls to new drives, measurement systems, or safety technology, all the way to a complete control system upgrade. Before undertaking a retrofit, one should assess whether the cost, remaining service life, implications under CE regulations, and expected benefits are economically viable.

What should be considered when making a significant modification to the machine?

Major modifications may give rise to new safety and compliance requirements. Whether a change is considered significant must be assessed on a case-by-case basis from both a technical and legal perspective. For extensive retrofits, qualified specialized agencies and, if necessary, the manufacturer should therefore be consulted.

Is the year of manufacture the only factor that determines quality?

No. Maintenance, workload, type of use, operating hours, environment, repairs, and operation often have a greater impact on a machine’s condition than simply its year of manufacture. A well-maintained older machine may be a more sensible choice from a technical standpoint than a newer machine that has been heavily used or has an unclear history.

Are known defects disclosed?

Known defects that are relevant to the sale are described in the available documentation or in the contract. Buyers should also conduct their own inspections and explicitly state any special requirements. Used machinery may exhibit variations due to age and wear and tear.

Are the machines sold in cleaned or refurbished condition?

Depending on the offer, a machine may be offered in its current condition, cleaned, technically repaired, partially overhauled, or fully overhauled. The scope of work must be clearly described, as terms such as “inspected” or “overhauled” can refer to different types of work.

Which technical specifications are particularly important when making a selection?

Important factors include travel distances, working area, table or chuck size, spindle speed and power, torque, tool holder, number of axes, load capacity, accuracy, control system, automation, space requirements, weight, media connections, and power supply voltage. In addition, the actual workpieces and processes should be taken into account.

The specific scope of responsibility is outlined in the quote.

What export documents are typically required?

Commonly required documents include a commercial invoice, packing list, export accompanying document, bill of lading, and, if applicable, a certificate of origin, EUR.1, A.TR., proof of insurance, or technical declaration. Requirements depend on the goods, destination country, country of origin, Incoterm, and import regulations.

What is an export declaration or EX1?

Goods exported from the customs territory of the European Union to a non-EU country must generally be declared for customs purposes. In Germany, electronic export declarations are routinely processed through ATLAS. Once the goods have been properly cleared for export, the export clearance note serves as proof of export.

What is an EORI number?

The EORI number is used to identify economic operators to the customs authorities of the European Union. Companies that regularly file customs declarations or act as exporters or importers often need an EORI number. The specific role in the export process is clarified prior to shipment.

Does Sunter determine whether a BAFA approval is required?

We provide support with the preliminary technical and foreign trade compliance review and involve specialized agencies as needed. Whether a license is required depends, among other things, on technical parameters, the classification of the goods on the list, the recipient, the end use, and the destination country. The review must be completed before export.

What does “dual-use” mean in the context of machine tools?

Dual-use goods can be used for both civilian and military purposes. Certain high-precision machine tools, control systems, or components may therefore be subject to export controls. Classification is based on the applicable lists of goods and the specific technical data.

How is an entire machine fleet valued?

We evaluate each major machine individually while also taking into account package discounts, dismantling costs, transportation, marketability, accessories, spare parts, and project deadlines. When necessary, we consult with expert appraisers, manufacturers, or specialists for specific pieces of equipment.

Is a direct purchase or marketing a better option?

A direct purchase offers quick planning certainty, a clear purchase price, and streamlined processing. If there is sufficient time, marketing the property can yield higher individual prices, but it also involves more coordination and market risk. We transparently outline the advantages and disadvantages of both models.

Can Sunter organize a smooth transition?

Yes, provided that this is included in the scope of services. In addition to equipment dismantling, residual materials, scrap, shelving, cables, foundations, or other equipment may also be included. The exact condition at the time of handover must be clearly defined before the project begins.

How long does it take to wind down a business?

The duration depends on the scope, deadlines, sales model, complexity of dismantling, the condition of the building, and export destinations. Small sites can be completed in a few weeks, while complex facilities may take several months. A binding schedule is developed after the initial assessment.

Can the recycling take place while operations are ongoing?

Yes. Machines can be released and picked up at staggered times. To do this, production completion, data backup, disconnection, safety zones, and transport windows are planned together. A clear release list prevents interference with equipment that is still in use.

How are sensitive data and company property protected?

Before handover, control data, programs, customer data, data storage media, tool drawings, and markings may be removed or backed up. Responsibilities for data deletion and verification should be documented in writing. Confidential project information is disclosed only to the extent necessary.

Does Sunter also handle non-saleable operating supplies?

Upon request, we can arrange for the proper recycling or disposal of components that are no longer usable. Hazardous substances, operating fluids, electronics, batteries, and contaminated materials must be handled in accordance with applicable regulations.

Does Sunter also take on international site development projects?

Yes. We coordinate cross-border dismantling, relocation, and recycling projects. In doing so, we must review local labor, safety, tax, customs, and waste disposal regulations, as well as entry and documentation requirements, well in advance.

Financing, Leasing, and Payment Processing

Does Sunter offer financing options?

Depending on the machine, the country of purchase, creditworthiness, and project size, financing solutions through banks, leasing companies, or specialized partners may be considered. Financing is a separate agreement and is subject to review and approval by the respective financing partner.

Can used machines be leased?

Yes, used machine tools can generally be leased. The key factors are age, value, remaining useful life, location, documentation, creditworthiness, and resale value. Not every machine or destination country is suitable for every leasing model.

Is rent-to-own possible?

Hire purchase may be offered depending on the financing partner and the project. In such cases, the term, down payment, final installment, transfer of ownership, and tax treatment should be reviewed. It is recommended to seek individual advice from the financing partner and your own tax advisor.

What documents are required for financing?

Typically, company data, annual financial statements, or business analyses, a description of the investment, a quote for machinery, the purchase price, the desired term, and information on the company’s financial situation are required. Additional documents may be required for international financing.

Are down payments common?

Down payments are common when purchasing machinery, particularly for reservations, exports, dismantling services, or custom-ordered machines. The amount, due date, and security arrangements are specified in the quote or purchase agreement. The balance is paid according to the agreed-upon milestones.

Is payment by letter of credit possible?

For suitable international projects, an irrevocable documentary letter of credit may be arranged. The terms, bank, documents, deadlines, and costs must be agreed upon before the contract is signed. Ambiguous or unfulfillable letter of credit terms should be avoided.

In which currencies can payments be made?

By default, quotes are often prepared in euros. Other currencies may be agreed upon on a project-by-project basis. Exchange rate risks, bank fees, and the timing of the conversion must be clearly defined.

When is a payment considered received?

A payment is generally considered received once the full amount has been irrevocably credited to the agreed-upon account. Payment confirmations or transfer receipts may serve as preliminary documentation, but they do not in all cases replace the actual receipt of payment.

Can Sunter reserve a machine pending financing?

A temporary reservation may be arranged. Since financing reviews take time and the machine will be taken off the market, a reservation fee, down payment, or fixed deadline may be required. The terms will be set forth in writing.

How is sales tax handled?

The treatment for sales tax purposes depends on the seller, the buyer, the place of delivery, the movement of goods, and the supporting documentation. Intra-Community supplies or exports may be tax-exempt under certain conditions. The statutory requirements and complete supporting documentation are decisive; this FAQ does not replace individual tax advice.

How do I report a service request?

Please send us the machine model, serial number, location, contact person, a detailed description of the problem, alarm codes, photos, and videos. Also let us know whether the machine has come to a complete stop and what checks have already been performed. This will allow us to prepare the appropriate technician more quickly.

Law, Contracts, Warranty, and Liability

What documents form the basis for a machinery purchase?

The basis for this consists, in particular, of the written offer, the order confirmation or the sales contract, technical specifications, lists of accessories, payment terms, delivery provisions, and, where applicable, the General Terms and Conditions. Any discrepancies should be clarified in writing before signing.

When does ownership of the machine transfer?

The transfer of ownership is governed by the purchase agreement and applicable law. A retention of title is often agreed upon until full payment has been made. The transfer of possession, the transfer of risk, and the transfer of ownership may occur at different times.

When does the risk of loss or damage transfer?

The transfer of risk is determined by the sales contract, the delivery terms, and, if applicable, the agreed-upon Incoterms® clause. Therefore, the delivery terms, the designated location, and responsibility for loading, transportation, and unloading must be clearly defined.

Is there a warranty on used machines?

The warranty is governed by the contract, the status of the seller and buyer, and applicable law. In B2B business transactions, the warranty for used machinery may be contractually limited or excluded. The specific contractual agreement is solely decisive.

Is a warranty the same thing as a guarantee?

No. The warranty is governed by law or by contract and pertains to rights regarding defects. A guarantee is an additional, voluntary commitment with its own terms and conditions. A guarantee is valid only if it has been expressly agreed to in writing.

How are known defects addressed in the contract?

Known defects should be described in specific terms and documented in the contract. The buyer can use this information to determine the condition of the property and the necessary repairs. General statements are no substitute for a detailed list of defects when a specific defect is known.

How should a complaint be filed?

Any complaint should be submitted in writing immediately and should include details of the machine, the contract, the nature of the defect, the time of occurrence, operating conditions, and photos or videos. The machine should not be modified or further disassembled without prior consultation if doing so would make it more difficult to determine the cause of the problem.

Can a sales contract be canceled retroactively?

In the B2B machinery trade, a general right of cancellation does not generally apply automatically. Cancellation is only possible if permitted by the contract, law, or a mutual agreement. Costs already incurred, reservations, dismantling, or loss of value may be taken into account.

Which law applies, and which court has jurisdiction?

The applicable law and venue are specified in the contract or in the General Terms and Conditions. For international transactions, the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods, arbitration agreements, and enforceability should also be reviewed. If anything is unclear, it is advisable to seek legal counsel.

Does this FAQ replace legal or tax advice?

No. The FAQ explains typical procedures and terms, but cannot replace specific advice regarding legal, tax, customs, or export control matters. The relevant contractual documents and the legal provisions applicable in each specific case are binding.

Data Protection, Confidentiality, and Document Security

What personal data does Sunter process when handling an inquiry?

In order to process an inquiry, we may process, in particular, your name, company, contact information, communication content, and project-related information. Details regarding the purpose, legal basis, retention period, and data subject rights can be found in the current Privacy Policy on sunter.de.

Will my information be shared with third parties?

Information will only be disclosed if it is necessary for the project, legally permissible, or expressly agreed upon. Potential recipients include, for example, freight forwarders, installers, customs brokers, insurers, financing partners, or service providers. As a general rule, only the necessary information is disclosed.

How are confidential machine quotes protected?

Confidential offers will not be made public without authorization. Prospective buyers may be required to sign a confidentiality agreement before receiving sensitive documents. The seller’s name, exact locations, production data, or internal documents may be anonymized initially.

Can a confidentiality agreement be entered into?

Yes. In cases involving business sales, facility closures, prototypes, sensitive industries, or ongoing negotiations, a separate confidentiality agreement may be advisable. The scope, term, authorized recipients, and permitted use of the information are specified in such an agreement.

What happens to CNC programs and production data?

Before a sale or dismantling, it should be clarified which data will remain with the previous operator, be deleted, or be included in the sale. Customer-specific programs, drawings, and access credentials may only be transferred with the appropriate authorization. A data backup should be performed before deletion.

May I publish photos and videos of a machine that is for sale?

That depends on the rights to the images and the agreements with the seller and Sunter. Images may show production areas, employees, logos, documents, or confidential components. Therefore, any publication should be approved in writing beforehand.

How long are project documents retained?

The retention period is determined by contract fulfillment, statutory retention requirements, legitimate interests, and the privacy policy. Personal data that is no longer needed will be deleted or blocked, provided there are no legal grounds for further retention.

How are documents transmitted securely?

Depending on the volume of data and the level of security required, encrypted email, secure download areas, or other secure transmission methods may be used. Login credentials should be transmitted separately, and confidential documents should be sent only to authorized recipients.

Can I request access to or deletion of my personal data?

Data subjects may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection in accordance with the statutory requirements. The contact information and the specific procedure are described in the privacy policy on sunter.de.

Who is responsible for deleting data from a machine that has been sold?

Responsibilities should be explicitly agreed upon prior to the handover. As a general rule, the previous operator should back up and delete sensitive production and personal data. Sunter can coordinate the technical implementation but assumes defined responsibility only if explicitly commissioned to do so.

Sustainability and Reuse

Why is buying a used machine sustainable?

Continuing to use existing machinery extends its life cycle and reduces the need for new raw materials, manufacturing capacity, and waste disposal. Reuse can help preserve a significant portion of existing industrial infrastructure, particularly in the case of heavy machine tools.

Are machines inspected for reusability before being scrapped?

Yes. We assess whether a machine can be resold as-is, overhauled, used as a source of spare parts, or dismantled for components. Economically and technically viable reuse generally takes precedence over mere material recycling.

Can a retrofit extend the service life of a machine?

Yes. By modernizing the control system, drives, measurement systems, spindle, electrical components, or safety technology, a mechanically sound machine can remain in productive use for a longer period. Before proceeding, it is important to evaluate costs, energy efficiency, the availability of replacement parts, and regulatory implications.

What happens to components that are no longer usable?

Non-reusable components are sorted whenever possible and sent to appropriate recycling or disposal channels. Operating fluids, electronics, batteries, and contaminated parts must be separated and handled in accordance with applicable regulations.

Can existing accessories be reused?

Tool holders, clamping devices, tables, pallets, cooling systems, chip conveyors, and spare parts can often be reused with the machine or on their own. Before doing so, their condition, interfaces, and technical compatibility must be checked.

How can the energy consumption of an older machine be improved?

Possible measures include modern drive systems, more efficient pumps, auxiliary equipment tailored to demand, optimized use of compressed air, shutdown strategies, and adapted process control. The actual benefits should be evaluated based on the specific load profile and the investment costs.

Does Sunter reuse packaging materials?

Transport racks, pallets, crates, and protective materials can be reused depending on their condition, cleanliness, and technical requirements. However, for export packaging, stability, corrosion protection, and country-specific requirements must always take precedence.

Can transportation be planned in an environmentally responsible way?

Yes. Unnecessary trips can be avoided through consolidated shipments, appropriate vehicle selection, optimized disassembly dimensions, short intermediate routes, and coordinated loading plans. For international projects, however, technical and economic feasibility also determine the transport route.

Does Sunter help companies recycle rather than dispose of waste?

Yes. When businesses are winding down or undergoing modernization, we develop disposal plans for machinery, accessories, spare parts, and equipment. This helps preserve assets that can be sold and reduce the volume of waste.

Can Sunter provide sustainability data for a project?

For specific projects, machine lists, reuse rates, weights, recycling routes, or transportation data can be documented, provided that this information is collected and requested. A standardized carbon footprint assessment or certification is only possible if the methodology and data basis have been agreed upon in advance.
